Sandwich Breads

Sandwich Breads

Say "goodbye" "so long" "eat you never" to breads packed with calories and carbohydrates. There are much healthier alternatives to your normal sandwich. Most sandwiches are high in fat and calories because of the bread they are prepared on, not the ingredients in the sandwich. The best way to lower the calorie count of your sandwich is to use whole or sprouted grain bread that is sliced thin and high in fiber.

Some of my favorite alternatives to regular sliced, white bread (which I stopped eating some years ago) are Arnold sandwich thins, Toufayan Smart pockets and bagels,  low carb wraps, and lettuce wraps.

I live off of sandwiches made from Arnold's sandwich thins. I use these for about any sandwich you can think of, and they are only 100 calories per two slices!

The Toufayan brand is somewhat new to me, but I love their smart pockets. The smart pockets are an 80 calorie substitute for pita bread and taste just as great. (I think they are actually better) I have not yet tried the smart bagels, but I have heard only good things, and plan on trying them soon!

If you are really looking to cut back on calories and carbohydrates, lettuce is your #1 choice for sandwiches. No, lettuce is obviously not bread, but can be a wonderful substitute for hamburger buns, tortilla bread, and sandwich bread.
